Wedding Morning Preparation Guide
Your wedding morning is the start of one of the most special days of your life. In my over 25 years of experience, I’ve fine-tuned these wedding morning tips to ensure everything feels calm, enjoyable, and stress-free.
A little thoughtful planning really does make all the difference.
Here are my tried-and-true recommendations to help your morning flow beautifully:
Skin Preparation
-
Exfoliate gently the night before for smooth, glowing skin.
-
Cleanse and moisturise in the morning.
-
Skip the SPF if you’ve been advised to (it can sometimes affect photos).
-
Arrive makeup-free so I can create the perfect base.
-
If you wear contact lenses, please put them in before your makeup.
Clothing & Environment
-
Pop on a button-down or zip-up top so you don’t disturb your hair or makeup later.
-
Try to keep some space tidy with a clear table for products and tools that your makeup artist and hairdresser can use.
-
Natural light works best for applying makeup, so a spot near a window is perfect.
-
Steam your dresses and veil the night before—it always takes longer than you think.
-
Remove any tags from dresses and stickers from the soles of shoes the night before, so everything is photo-ready.
-
Break in your wedding shoes with a few 20–30 minute walks at home so you’re comfortable from the start.
Timing
-
Print a simple morning schedule so everyone knows what’s happening when.
-
Be ready in the chair at your time slot.
-
Let your bridal party know the timings too, so everything runs smoothly.
-
Leave a little buffer for touch-ups before you get into your dress.
-
If you’re giving emotional gifts, do it the night before or before makeup starts—it helps keep happy tears from affecting your look.
Bridal Party Tips
-
Share this guide with bridesmaids, mums, and anyone else having hair or makeup.
-
Everyone should arrive with clean, dry hair and makeup-free faces.
Final Touches
-
Have your veil, jewellery, and lipstick nearby for those last finishing touches.
-
Place any sentimental jewellery, accessories, or heirlooms together so your photographer can capture them beautifully before you wear them.
-
Stay hydrated, have some light snacks, and keep your phone close for quick check-ins (but avoid long calls during hair and makeup).
With these little preparations in place, your wedding morning will feel relaxed, joyful, and completely seamless. Over the years, I’ve seen just how much difference it makes — when everything flows beautifully, you’re free to enjoy the moment, feel your most radiant, and step into your day with complete confidence.
When you book me, you’re not just booking makeup. You’re securing peace of mind, a calm and luxurious atmosphere, and the confidence that comes from over 25 years of experience. I’m there to ensure you and your bridal party feel looked after from the very first brushstroke, so your morning becomes as unforgettable as the vows themselves.
Your wedding morning
A beautifully considered wedding morning is about more than simply getting ready—it's about creating an atmosphere of calm, ease and quiet anticipation before one of the most memorable moments of your life.
As part of my bespoke bridal experience, every wedding morning is meticulously planned with a personalised beauty timeline, ensuring your morning unfolds effortlessly and without unnecessary pressure.
As a guide, I allow one hour per makeup application, together with approximately 20 minutes before we begin to prepare my workspace and 20 minutes at the end to pack away. Throughout the morning, I work seamlessly alongside your chosen hairstylist, allowing us to maintain a relaxed pace while ensuring everyone is ready exactly when they need to be.
The time your ceremony begins plays an important part in planning your morning. The earlier your ceremony, the earlier your hair and makeup team will need to arrive. Wedding mornings often begin much earlier than couples expect, particularly when larger bridal parties are involved, so it's worth preparing for an early start.
It's equally important to allow time for yourself. I always encourage my brides to enjoy a proper breakfast and stay well hydrated before we begin. It will be a long, exciting day, and taking a little time to nourish yourself will help you feel your very best from morning until night.
The final hour before your ceremony is often the most treasured—and the busiest. It's the time for slipping into your gown, fastening those final buttons, sharing a glass of champagne with your loved ones, welcoming your photographer to capture those beautiful finishing touches, and meeting with your celebrant or registrar. I always recommend allowing at least 30 minutes to get into your dress so you can enjoy every moment without feeling hurried.
Once you're fully dressed, I'll return for your final touch-ups. From perfecting your lipstick and complexion to ensuring every detail photographs beautifully, I'll make sure you leave feeling polished, confident and effortlessly radiant as you walk down the aisle.
No two weddings are ever the same, which is why every timeline I create is thoughtfully tailored to your plans, your bridal party and your venue. My role extends far beyond makeup alone—I'm there to help create a wedding morning that feels beautifully organised, wonderfully relaxed and every bit as memorable as the celebration that follows.
